Why Everyone Needs a VIKKI Day
Most of us spend our lives in service mode.
We show up for our children, our partners, our families, our clients, our employers. We anticipate needs, solve problems, and hold things together—often without anyone noticing the cost.
A VIKKI Day is a deliberate interruption to that pattern.
It is a day that belongs to you.
What Is a VIKKI Day?
A VIKKI Day is not a spa day.
It is not about indulgence or escape.
It is a day of intentional self-prioritisation—where your time, energy, and decisions are guided by one question only:
Does this benefit me?
If the answer is no, it does not make the cut.
Why We Struggle to Take Time for Ourselves
Many people feel guilt at the idea of a day focused solely on themselves. We have been conditioned to believe that:
- Rest must be earned
- Self-focus is selfish
- Productivity is measured by output for others
But chronic self-neglect has consequences:
- Mental fatigue
- Loss of focus
- Irritability and resentment
- Burnout that masquerades as “losing motivation”
A VIKKI Day is not a luxury—it is maintenance.
What You Do on a VIKKI Day (And What You Don’t)
There are no rules, but there are boundaries.
You might:
- Walk without a destination
- Journal or think without interruption
- Do admin that benefits your future
- Read, sleep, declutter, plan, or do nothing at all
- Eat when you want, not when it suits others
You do not:
- Run errands for other people
- Fix other people’s problems
- Explain or justify your choices
- “Just quickly” do something for someone else
This is not avoidance.
It is recalibration.
Why One Day Can Change Everything
When you stop reacting and start listening, something interesting happens.
You remember:
- What you like
- What drains you
- What no longer fits your life
- What you actually want next
Clarity does not arrive through busyness.
It arrives through space.
A VIKKI Day creates that space.
Who Needs a VIKKI Day Most?
Ironically, the people who feel they “can’t afford” to take one are the ones who need it the most:
- Parents who have spent years prioritising everyone else
- Caregivers
- Business owners
- People navigating big transitions
- Anyone who feels unfocused, stuck, or quietly exhausted
If you feel like you’ve lost your rhythm, you haven’t.
You just haven’t had time alone long enough to hear it.
How to Start
You do not need permission.
Choose a date.
Communicate it clearly.
Protect it firmly.
Start with one day.
You will not fall behind.
You will not let anyone down.
You will come back clearer, calmer, and more yourself.
And that benefits everyone.
