Now It’s My Turn - Poem
I learned love outward first—
how to hold space,
how to soften my voice,
how to give until it felt normal
to have nothing left.
I loved everyone
before I knew how to stay with myself.
No one taught me
that I was allowed to receive
the same patience I offered so freely.
This isn’t selfish.
It’s correction.
It’s tending to the parts of me
that learned survival instead of care.
I am learning to speak to myself
the way I spoke to the hurting.
To show up without conditions.
To stay, even when it’s uncomfortable.
Loving myself doesn’t take love away from others—
it teaches me how to love without disappearing.
So now it’s my turn.
Not loudly.
Not defensively.
But gently.
The way I always needed.
