Not Loved, Just Needed - Poem
I was never loved—
I was useful.
I was the place people rested
but never stayed.
The hand they held
until something better arrived.
They took my softness
as permission.
My silence as consent.
My loyalty as something
they didn’t need to earn.
I gave care freely,
thinking love would follow.
But affection shouldn’t feel like depletion,
and love doesn’t leave you emptier
than before.
I was present for everyone
except myself.
Needed—but not chosen.
Relied on—but not protected.
Now I see the difference.
Love does not arrive only when it’s convenient.
Love doesn’t vanish when you ask for more.
I wasn’t unlovable.
I was available.
And I am learning
that being needed
is not the same
as being loved.
