My Joyful Moment of the Morning:
**My Joyful Moment of the Morning:
A Makita Drill, Cabinet Lighting, and the Meaningful Life of a Single Mum**
There are women out there who wake up to breakfast in bed, men who do the DIY, and a peaceful, organised life.
And then there’s me.
A single mum who wakes up, finishes her tea, rolls up her sleeves and says:
“Right. Where’s my Makita?”
Because nothing — and I mean NOTHING — hits the soul quite like the moment you grab your drill, climb onto the kitchen floor like a mechanic under a car, and install cabinet lighting all by yourself.
No man needed.
No waiting around.
No “I’ll do it later.”
No arguments.
Just me, my drill, and my ‘I can bloody do anything’ energy.
And when I switched those lights on?
✨ Wow. ✨
Instant cosy.
Instant glow-up.
Instant dopamine.
Instant “I am THAT woman.”
It was a 5-minute job that turned into a full-on spiritual awakening.
Because here’s the thing about being a single mum:
Sometimes we don’t get holidays.
Sometimes we don’t get help.
Sometimes we don’t get flowers, romantic gestures, or anyone offering to lift the heavy shit.
But what we DO get?
Moments like this.
Moments where we do something small but powerful and think:
“Look at me.
I built this.
I fixed this.
I made my home nicer.
I did this for ME.”
That’s joy.
That’s pride.
That’s independence in action.
That’s healing.
That’s power.
A Makita drill and a strip of lighting might not seem spiritual…
But in my world?
It’s a sign.
A reminder.
A tiny electric message from the universe saying:
“You’re not just surviving anymore.
You’re creating a life you actually enjoy.”
And honestly?
That is the meaningful life of a single mum —
finding joy in the little victories,
doing the things we were told we needed someone else for,
and lighting up our homes (and our damn souls) one DIY job at a time.
