Attachment Weaponisation: The Bond Was Never an Accident

Attachment Weaponisation: The Bond Was Never an Accident I never noticed the closeness being built. I just assumed it was love, and assumed what I owed because of it, without either of us ever saying it out loud. Short version: Trauma bonding is usually described as something that happens to you, almost by accident, through unpredictable reward. A 2025 Cambridge study, interviewing eighteen women with sustained attachment to abusive partners, found something sharper underneath that: the closeness itself is often deliberately constructed early on, specifically so it can be exploited later. Researchers call this attachment weaponisation. The unsettling part is that it isn't always obvious while it's happening. It can feel completely organic, right up until you realise how much invisible obligation got built into it along the way. What is attachment weaponisation? A 2025 study led by researchers at the University of Cambridge, published in the journal Violence Aga...

How to Become Unfuckwithable After Emotional Abuse

How to Become Unfuckwithable After Emotional Abuse

How to Become “Unfuckwithable” After Emotional Abuse

If someone has ever broken you down, gaslit you, confused you, drained you and made you question your entire reality… this one’s for you.

Because there comes a point in healing where you’re not just trying to “feel better” anymore.

You want something bigger. You want something louder. You want something permanent.

You want to become completely, gloriously, unapologetically unfuckwithable.

Not hard and bitter. Not closed and cold. But so solid in yourself that nobody ever gets to play with your mind, money, time, body or heart like that again.

Let’s build that version of you.

Step 1: Admit What Actually Happened (No More Sugarcoating)

You cannot become unfuckwithable while you’re still romanticising your abuser.

So first, we stop saying:

  • “It was complicated.”
  • “We were just toxic together.”
  • “I wasn’t perfect either.”

And we start saying:

  • “I was emotionally abused.”
  • “I was manipulated.”
  • “I was gaslit.”
  • “I was made to feel small on purpose.”

This is not about becoming a victim forever. It’s about telling the truth so you can stop blaming yourself.

You can’t fight an enemy you refuse to name.

Step 2: Break the Trauma Bond (You’re Not “In Love”, You’re Hooked)

Emotional abuse creates trauma bonds – that maddening, painful attachment to the very person who hurt you.

Shit feels like:

  • “I hate them but I miss them.”
  • “I know they’re bad for me but I still want them.”
  • “I feel sick without them even though I felt sick WITH them.”

That’s not love. That’s nervous system addiction.

They trained your brain to link:

  • fear + relief,
  • anxiety + affection,
  • pain + comfort,
  • hurt + crumbs of kindness.

The unfuckwithable move? You treat contact with them like a substance you’re detoxing from.

Block, mute, delete, distance, stop stalking.

If the word “sober” hits a nerve (in love or life), my book Sober Not Sorry goes right into this addiction–healing mindset. Same wiring. Different drug.

Step 3: Upgrade Your Self-Respect Stock Price™

Emotional abuse destroys one thing first: your self-respect.

To become unfuckwithable, we rebuild that like a ruthless CEO.

Your self-respect is now a stock. Every action either:

  • raises your value in your own eyes, or
  • crashes it.

Unfuckwithable habits:

  • Leaving rooms where you’re not respected.
  • Not explaining your “no” more than once.
  • Refusing to argue with people who enjoy misunderstanding you.
  • Walking away when someone shows you who they are the first time.
  • Not chasing anyone. Ever.

Every time you choose self-respect over drama, your internal stock price goes UP.

Step 4: Get Your Money Right (Because Power Loves Options)

Let’s be real: a big part of being unfuckwithable is not being financially trapped.

Abusers love it when:

  • you’re broke,
  • you’re scared to leave,
  • you’re stuck in survival mode,
  • you think you “can’t afford” to start again.

Every pound you save, every debt you clear, every “no” you give to stupid purchases, every income stream you build… is power.

Financial power = emotional power = “I don’t need your bullshit to survive.”

If you’re rebuilding from zero or a low income, How to Build Wealth on a Low Income is literally designed for that “never relying on the wrong person again” glow-up.

Step 5: Become a Walking Boundary

Unfuckwithable people don’t just have boundaries. They are boundaries.

Not walls. Not ice. Boundaries.

Translation:

  • I can love you and still say no.
  • I can care about you and still not tolerate disrespect.
  • I can understand your trauma and still choose not to be your target.

After emotional abuse, the unfuckwithable glow-up is:

  • no more over-explaining,
  • no more justifying your feelings,
  • no more negotiating your worth.

“No” is a full sentence. “Because I said so” is a valid reason. Your peace is evidence enough.

Step 6: Stabilise Your Nervous System (So You Stop Confusing Chaos With “Chemistry”)

If emotional abuse was your normal, your body might still crave:

  • drama,
  • tension,
  • overthinking,
  • walking on eggshells,
  • “is today going to be good or bad?” guessing games.

Peace might still feel… weird.

Your unfuckwithable era requires this upgrade:

Chaos is no longer your baseline. Peace is.

Practical ways to do that:

  • Less contact with chaotic people.
  • Less doomscrolling and drama content.
  • More walks, sleep, quiet, nature, routines.
  • More “boring” little habits that make you feel safe.

The calmer your system, the easier it is to spot manipulative bullshit a mile away.

Step 7: Stop Making Yourself Small to Keep Other People Comfortable

Emotional abusers hate your light. Your joy. Your opinions. Your confidence. Your potential.

So they:

  • mock you,
  • doubt you,
  • minimise your achievements,
  • criticise your ideas,
  • make you feel “too much.”

Your unfuckwithable era looks like:

  • taking up space,
  • speaking your mind,
  • celebrating yourself loudly,
  • laughing big,
  • dressing how YOU want,
  • living for your own approval first.

If someone can’t handle your healed self, they don’t get access to you at all.

Step 8: Build a Life That Doesn’t Rely on Anyone’s Permission

Unfuckwithable isn’t about “I don’t need anybody ever.” It’s about:

  • “I’m willing to lose you before I lose myself again.”
  • “I want you in my life, but I don’t need you to define it.”
  • “I’m not scared of being alone if the alternative is being mistreated.”

Make moves like:

  • starting projects that light you up,
  • earning your own money,
  • building friendships that feel safe,
  • creating routines that are yours, not theirs.

When your life belongs to YOU, nobody can hijack it like a storyline in their drama.

Step 9: Forgive Yourself Before You Even Think About Forgiving Them

People love to talk about “forgiveness” after abuse. Cool. Cute. Whatever.

But before you even go there:

Forgive yourself.

  • For staying as long as you did.
  • For not knowing sooner.
  • For the times you went back.
  • For losing yourself in the process.

You didn’t deserve what happened to you. You reacted from survival, not stupidity.

The unfuckwithable version of you doesn’t walk around ashamed. She walks around aware.

The Moment You Realise You’re Unfuckwithable

It won’t be fireworks. It won’t be a movie montage.

It’ll be little moments like:

  • You typing a long message… then deleting it and doing something fun instead.
  • You hearing their name and feeling… nothing much.
  • You choosing rest instead of spiralling.
  • You saying “no” without guilt – and not changing your mind.
  • You looking at your past and thinking, “That broke me… but it also built this version of me.”

That’s unfuckwithable.

Not unfeeling. Not unkind. Just unavailable for bullshit.

They tried to destroy you. All they really did was show you how powerful you are when you finally choose yourself.

And from here on? Your heart, your mind, your time, your energy, your money, your peace – are by invitation only.
