Attachment Weaponisation: The Bond Was Never an Accident

Attachment Weaponisation: The Bond Was Never an Accident I never noticed the closeness being built. I just assumed it was love, and assumed what I owed because of it, without either of us ever saying it out loud. Short version: Trauma bonding is usually described as something that happens to you, almost by accident, through unpredictable reward. A 2025 Cambridge study, interviewing eighteen women with sustained attachment to abusive partners, found something sharper underneath that: the closeness itself is often deliberately constructed early on, specifically so it can be exploited later. Researchers call this attachment weaponisation. The unsettling part is that it isn't always obvious while it's happening. It can feel completely organic, right up until you realise how much invisible obligation got built into it along the way. What is attachment weaponisation? No One’s Perfect — But You Can Fucking Try

Nobody’s perfect. Not your friends, not your coworkers, not even that person on Instagram who looks like they have it all together. And yes, that includes you.

But here’s the thing: trying matters more than being perfect.

💡 Try Something New

Even tiny attempts count. Forgot to reply to that email? Send a “Hey, my bad!” now. Skipped your morning workout? Do 5 minutes today and call it progress.

Once, I tried cooking a fancy pasta dish and accidentally added salt instead of sugar. Disaster? Yes. Learned something? Absolutely. I laughed, tried again, and nailed it the next day.

🧠 Learn from Mistakes

Failing doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you’re human.

I once confidently answered a work question… completely wrong. Everyone laughed (me included). I studied, tried again, and nailed it the following week. Lesson: failing = free tuition.

💪 Keep Moving Forward

Perfection is boring. Progress is badass. Every small step adds up.

I started journaling for 3 minutes a day. At first, it was messy and weird. Three months later, I had clarity I didn’t even know I wanted.

🔥 Celebrate Effort, Not Outcome

Trying = winning. Even if it looks like failure on the surface, your effort is proof you care about your growth.

I ran my first 5K last year… and came dead last. Did I care? Nope. I finished. I tried. I felt amazing. That’s the win.

Remember: no one’s perfect, but you can fucking try. Try. Fail. Learn. Laugh. Grow. Keep going. That’s how we get better, stronger, and freer every day.
