Attachment Weaponisation: The Bond Was Never an Accident

Attachment Weaponisation: The Bond Was Never an Accident I never noticed the closeness being built. I just assumed it was love, and assumed what I owed because of it, without either of us ever saying it out loud. Short version: Trauma bonding is usually described as something that happens to you, almost by accident, through unpredictable reward. A 2025 Cambridge study, interviewing eighteen women with sustained attachment to abusive partners, found something sharper underneath that: the closeness itself is often deliberately constructed early on, specifically so it can be exploited later. Who Else Enjoys Going to the Pub… Sober

I love going to the pub now that I’m sober. Why? Because I get to watch the 9 pm chaos unfold like I’m front row at the world’s weirdest circus.

It’s like EastEnders, but better. There are drunk people puffing through 20,000 cigarettes, someone’s sniffing who-knows-what, and the whole place slowly descends into absolute carnage. Chairs wobble, drinks spill, arguments flare — all in glorious slow motion.

And me? I’m sipping my sparkling water or herbal tea, laughing so hard I almost snort. No hangover tomorrow, no embarrassing texts, no guilt — just pure entertainment. The pub has become premium reality TV, and I didn’t even have to pay for a subscription.

The benefits of staying sober? Endless amusement, full awareness, and a front-row seat to humanity’s finest (and drunkest) moments. Honestly, it’s better than EastEnders, and I get to leave without smelling like a dumpster.

Sober life: it’s hilarious, it’s chaotic, and sometimes, it’s just downright entertaining.
