🍾The Day I Said “I’m Not Drinking Anymore” — And They Backed Off
Let me tell you something no one talks about enough:
Narcissists don’t want you healed.
They don’t want you clear.
They definitely don’t want you sober.
Because when you’re sober — really sober — they can’t get to you anymore.
They can’t twist your words when you’re thinking straight.
They can’t gaslight you when you remember the details.
They can’t control you when you’re no longer emotionally scrambled.
So the second I said,
“I’m not drinking anymore,”
they didn’t clap.
They didn’t support me.
They didn’t stick around.
They backed the fuck off.
Why?
Because I stopped being their puppet.
Because I stopped reacting.
Because I stopped needing anything from them — not comfort, not company, not escape.
Alcohol was the bridge between me and the narcissist.
Burning it down was the most powerful thing I ever did.
And no, I didn’t just “get sober.”
I got strong.
I got free.
So if you’re standing in the middle of the madness right now, glass in hand, wondering why you feel crazy all the time — it’s not just the alcohol.
It’s them.
And they want you to stay numbed out so you won’t wake up to it.
But when you do?
Oh, babe — you’ll feel it.
The silence. The distance. The sudden chill in the air.
That’s them realising their spell is broken.
You don’t need to fight.
You don’t need to explain.
You just need to stay sober and let that be the loudest “fuck you” they’ll ever hear.
