Days 62-68 of 120: Seven Days Of People-Watching — The Christmas Body Countdown 62-68 of 120 120 Days to Christmas Seven Days Of People-Watching Two dials, four kinds of people, and who to keep close. Seven days went by, and I'm not going to dress that up. So instead of seven rushed posts, here's one proper one, about something I find fascinating: watching how different people handle honesty and conflict. It's all from what I've noticed over the years, so please take it as my observations, not gospel. Two dials tell you a lot about a person: how honest they are, and how much conflict they bring. DAY 62: THE TWO DIALS Honesty and conflict Picture two dials. One is honesty: how truthful someone is, from low to high. The other is conflict: how much drama and friction they bring, from low to high. Turn them to different settings and you get four very different kinds of people. We all slide around a ...

Day 21: What Actually Works, According to the Research

No fads. No gimmicks. Just what the evidence actually says gets results.
It's National Fitness Day, so instead of another opinion, let's look at what the actual research says works. Not what's trending, not what an influencer swears by, but what large studies, reviewing thousands of people, consistently show gets real results.
The research keeps landing on the same answer. It's not one magic method, it's the combination.
Studies comparing different types of exercise keep coming back to the same conclusion, again and again. Cardio and strength training aren't competing methods, they each do a different job, and doing both together consistently outperforms doing just one.
FOR FAT LOSS

Cardio comes out on top

Research comparing training types found aerobic exercise, walking, running, cycling, swimming, was the most effective for reducing body fat percentage specifically. If fat loss is your main goal, regular cardio earns its place front and centre.

FOR FITNESS AND STRENGTH

Strength training wins

When it comes to improving your actual fitness capacity and strength, resistance training came out clearly on top. Lifting, bodyweight work, resistance bands, all count, and the effects on strength and cardiovascular fitness were substantial.

FOR YOUR LONG TERM HEALTH

Doing both wins overall

A major study of over four hundred thousand adults found that people combining cardio and strength training had a lower risk of death than people doing cardio alone, even though cardio alone still beat doing nothing. The combination is genuinely the most protective option researchers have found.

You don't need to pick a side in the cardio versus weights debate. The research already picked for you, do both, consistently, and you're covering every base at once.
99 days left. Keep going.
