Day 18: It Starts With Your Plate, Not Tomorrow
Day 18: It Starts With Your Plate, Not Tomorrow
Calories in versus calories out decides everything
Whatever else you do, this is the foundation underneath it. Eat less than you burn and you'll lose weight. Eat more and you'll gain. It's not glamorous, but it's the one rule that never stops being true, whatever diet trend is popular this month.
Protein first, spread through the day
Getting a decent amount of protein in most meals, roughly four to six times a day, supports muscle and keeps you fuller for longer. It doesn't need to be exact or perfect, just present, consistently, meal after meal.
No fancy shopping list needed
Lean meats like chicken breast, turkey, and lean cuts of beef or pork. Fish such as salmon or tuna. Eggs, low-fat yoghurt, cottage cheese, and milk. If you eat plant-based, beans with rice, lentils with wholemeal bread, or hummus and peanut butter on wholegrain toast all combine to give you a complete protein. For carbs, keep it simple with rice, oats, potatoes, wholegrain bread, and pasta. Fill plates out with veggies you actually enjoy, broccoli, carrots, cabbage, mushrooms, whatever's easy to prep. Fruit like apples, oranges, and pears make an easy snack. Of course, swap anything here for a safe alternative if you have any allergies or intolerances, none of this needs to be followed to the letter.
Convenient and consistent beats perfect and abandoned
You don't need elaborate meal prep or perfectly clean eating. Simple, repeatable food you'll actually make again, a turkey sandwich, a chicken and rice bowl, whatever fits your life, wins over an ambitious plan you'll quit within a week. Ease into changes gradually rather than overhauling everything overnight.
