Keep Fighting Until You Get There

Not because it will be easy. Not because you will not want to quit. But because the person on the other side of this struggle is someone you very much need to meet.

```
Can I tell you something about the moment just before things work out?
It looks exactly like the moment you are most tempted to quit. The same exhaustion. The same doubt. The same voice in your head that has been very helpfully pointing out all the reasons this is not going to work. The moment before the breakthrough and the moment before the giving up look, from the inside, almost identical.
Which means the only way to know which one you are in is to keep going and find out.
I know. I am sorry. But that is the truth, and you deserve the truth more than you deserve a comfortable lie.
The dream does not get easier to hold. You get stronger. And the difference between the people who get there and the people who do not is mostly just that the ones who got there refused to put it down.
Why Quitting Feels So Reasonable
Somewhere along the way we got the idea that if something is meant for us, it should flow. It should feel natural, effortless, divinely guided. The right path should be smooth. The right dream should open like a door.
So when things get hard, when the door sticks, when the path turns to mud and the map turns out to be wrong, we take that as a sign. A sign that this was not meant for us after all. A sign that we should redirect our energy somewhere more promising. Somewhere easier.
And sometimes, yes, that is the right read. Some things are genuinely not for us and the wise move is to let them go.
But a lot of the time, the hard bit is not a sign that you are on the wrong path. It is just a sign that you are on a path. Paths are hard. That is what makes arriving somewhere worth anything at all.
The Things That Actually Keep You Going
Motivation is a terrible strategy. It is unreliable, it disappears the moment you need it most, and it has absolutely no interest in showing up on a grey Tuesday when everything feels pointless. You cannot build a dream on motivation alone any more than you can build a house on a feeling of enthusiasm.
What actually works is simpler, quieter, and considerably less glamorous than motivation. Here is what it looks like.
1
Know Your Why Down to the Bone
Not the surface reason. The real one. The one that lives underneath the ambition and the practicalities. Why does this dream matter to YOU, in your life, right now? Write it down somewhere you will see it on the days you forget.
2
Make the Next Step Laughably Small
When the whole thing feels impossible, you have made the unit of progress too large. You do not have to climb the mountain today. You have to take one step. Just one. Embarrassingly small counts. Small done beats large dreamed every single time.
3
Stop Comparing Your Middle to Someone Else's Highlight
You are in the messy, difficult, unglamorous middle of your story. The person you are comparing yourself to is showing you their edited highlights reel. Their middle looked just like yours. It always does.
4
Rest Without Quitting
There is a version of rest that is surrender and a version that is strategy. You are allowed to put the dream down for a week. You are allowed to breathe. Resting is not the same as giving up. Only you know the difference, and you do know.
5
Find One Person Who Believes in This
Not someone who will talk you out of it for your own good. Someone who looks at your dream and says yes, that makes sense, keep going. Borrow their belief on the days yours runs out. That is what they are there for.
6
Count What You Have Already Done
You have been measuring the distance left to go. Measure, for once, how far you have already come. The version of you from three years ago would not believe how much ground you have covered. That person deserves some recognition.
On the Days You Want to Quit
There will be days when the dream feels stupid. When you feel stupid for having it. When you look at where you are and where you wanted to be by now and the gap between them seems not just large but laughable.
On those days, do not try to get inspired. Do not watch a motivational video or make a vision board or wait until you feel ready to start again. Just do the one next tiny thing. The email. The paragraph. The phone call. The ten minutes.
Not because it will fix everything. Not because you will finish and feel amazing. Just because it keeps the thread alive. And as long as the thread is alive, the dream is alive. And as long as the dream is alive, there is a path to it, however winding, however muddy, however much longer than you originally planned for.
You do not have to want to do it today. You just have to do it. The wanting often comes back once you have started. It is funny like that.
The Fairy Knows Something You Have Forgotten
She has been watching you, you know. All the way through the hard bits. The rejections, the setbacks, the nights you stared at the ceiling wondering what the point was. She has seen every single one and she has not, not once, stopped believing in you.
Not because the path was easy. Not because you were doing it perfectly. But because she can see something from where she is hovering that you cannot always see from inside the middle of it: that you are still here. Still trying. Still holding on to the thing that matters to you even when everything around you is suggesting you let go.
That is not nothing. That is everything.
The dreams worth having do not come easily. They come to the people who kept going one day longer than they thought they could. They come to the people who, on the days they could not run, walked. On the days they could not walk, crawled. And on the days they could not crawl, lay down, rested, and got back up in the morning.
Be that person. You already are that person. You just have to keep being them.
One more day. One more try. One more laughably small step forward. The version of you that gets there is built entirely out of days like today. ✨
