😂 Is My Teenager Going to Be Moody or Happy Today? The Suspense Is Killing Me
There should be a National Lottery-style results show for this.
Honestly.
Every morning, especially on a Saturday, I lie in bed with my tea thinking:
“Right… what magical mood will my teenager choose today?”
Because let’s be real:
Living with a teenager is like living with an emotional weather system that changes without warning and definitely without permission.
🎰 Teenager Mood Roulette
The options on today’s wheel include:
- 😒 Moody as sin
- 😴 Half-dead but still dramatic
- 🤩 Weirdly cheerful (rare Pokémon)
- 🙄 Annoyed because you breathed too loudly
- 😡 Storm-level rage for no identifiable reason
- 🍟 ‘I’m starving’ even though the kitchen is right there
- 😭 Crying because someone on TikTok did something around 2017
- 😐 Completely silent like an NPC that hasn’t loaded yet
And there I am, tea in hand, lying in bed like David Attenborough waiting to observe the creature in its natural habitat.
🤫 The Build-Up
She’s still asleep.
The house is calm.
This is the moment before the earthquake.
The suspicious silence.
The pre-battle stillness.
I’m sipping my tea thinking:
“Is today the day she wakes up happy? Is she going to descend from her bedroom like a Disney princess? Or… will she appear in the doorway like a gremlin who hasn’t fully evolved yet?”
No one knows.
Not even her.
Her hormones will choose for her.
🚪 The Wake-Up Scene
This is when the tension starts building.
I walk to her door with the confidence of a woman who pays bills.
Cup in hand.
Hair a mess.
Energy at 37%.
Ready for whatever emerges.
But waking up a teenager is not a gentle process.
You’re not ‘encouraging’ them awake — you’re performing emotional CPR.
So you bang.
You open curtains.
You annoy on purpose.
Because you care.
Also because you’ve got things to do and you’re not waiting until 2pm.
🎭 Mood #1: The Moody Teen
Door opens.
Hair everywhere.
Squinting like Gollum seeing daylight.
“Mum… seriously?”
This is where you keep the humour.
Smile sweetly and say:
“Good morning, my love. I thought you might enjoy rejoining the living.”
The drama will be unreal.
But laughter is your superpower.
🎭 Mood #2: The Happy Teen
Shock.
Delight.
Suspicion.
She walks into the kitchen smiling and you’re immediately thinking:
“Okay… what do you want? Who are you? Where’s my real child?”
Enjoy it.
This is the mood you prayed for.
🎭 Mood #3: The Could-Go-Either-Way Teen
This is dangerous territory.
One wrong word and BOOM — emotional volcano.
Move carefully.
Like approaching a horse you don’t want to spook.
Be calm.
Be neutral.
Offer food.
😂 How to Survive the Lows With Laughter
Here are the techniques:
✨ 1. The Overly Cheerful Parent Strategy
Respond to moodiness with terrifying amounts of positivity.
It annoys them but resets the vibe.
✨ 2. The Curtain Technique
Open the curtains dramatically like you’re performing on the West End.
✨ 3. The Food Offering
Teens cannot stay miserable when there’s toast.
✨ 4. The Parental Sass Move
“Well, if you’re going to be dramatic, at least project your voice. I’m making tea.”
✨ 5. The ‘Laugh Instead of Cry’ Method
When all else fails, remember:
Teenage moods aren’t personal.
They’re hormonal weather –
You just need to bring a damn umbrella.
❤️ And Most of All
You’re doing amazingly.
Your teenager won’t remember the mood swings.
They’ll remember the laughter, the patience, and the fact you always tried.
