Attachment Weaponisation: The Bond Was Never an Accident

Attachment Weaponisation: The Bond Was Never an Accident I never noticed the closeness being built. I just assumed it was love, and assumed what I owed because of it, without either of us ever saying it out loud. Short version: Trauma bonding is usually described as something that happens to you, almost by accident, through unpredictable reward. A 2025 Cambridge study, interviewing eighteen women with sustained attachment to abusive partners, found something sharper underneath that: the closeness itself is often deliberately constructed early on, specifically so it can be exploited later. Researchers call this attachment weaponisation. The unsettling part is that it isn't always obvious while it's happening. It can feel completely organic, right up until you realise how much invisible obligation got built into it along the way. What is attachment weaponisation? A 2025 study led by researchers at the University of Cambridge, published in the journal Violence Aga...

I’m a Cookie That Never Crumbles (I Just Cry to Recharge)

I used to think strength meant:

Never cracking.
Never wobbling.
Never crying.
Never needing a minute.

Solid. Unshakeable. Unbothered.

Basically… a brick.

But I’m not a brick.

I’m a cookie.

Cookies Don’t Crumble. They Flex.

Here’s the thing about cookies.

They look solid.

But press them too hard, and they respond.

They bend.
They soften.
They release.

That’s not weakness.

That’s design.

I don’t crumble.

I cry.

And then I reset.

Crying Is Maintenance

For years, I thought crying meant:

“I’m losing it.”

Now I see it as:

System release.

Like:

  • Clearing browser tabs

  • Emptying the bin

  • Restarting the WiFi

You don’t throw the router away because it needs a reset.

You reset it.

Same with me.

Strength Without Release Becomes Pressure

When you:

  • Carry the finances

  • Carry the emotions

  • Carry the responsibility

  • Carry the plans

without release?

You don’t become stronger.

You become overloaded.

Even the most disciplined, boring-wealth-building, early-rising adult needs a recharge.

Crying is not collapse.

It’s calibration.

I Don’t Crumble in Chaos Anymore

Old me:

Reacted.
Spiralled.
Over-functioned.
Tried to fix everything.

Current me:

Pauses.
Cries if needed.
Regulates.
Then adjusts the structure.

Reduce volatility.
Increase margin.
Lower alcohol.
Strengthen boundaries.

Then move forward.

Cookie intact.

The Problem With “Unbreakable”

Unbreakable people scare themselves into silence.

Flexible people survive longer.

I’m not interested in looking invincible.

I’m interested in staying stable.

Stability sometimes includes tears.

The Real Flex

The real flex isn’t never crying.

It’s:

Crying.
Wiping your face.
Checking your bank account calmly.
Making one small adjustment.
Going to bed on time.

That’s grown strength.

Final Thought

I’m a cookie that never crumbles.

I just:

Recharge.
Reset.
Recalibrate.
Return stronger.

You don’t need to be stone.

You need to be resilient.

Resilient bends.
Resilient releases.
Resilient rebuilds.

And resilient wins long-term.
