If You Run Out of Petrol, You’re on Your Own
Here’s a life lesson: if you run out of petrol, don’t expect me to push your car. Or bail you out. Or save you from consequences you created. Life isn’t a free taxi service, and neither am I.
Funny, right? Harsh? Maybe. Necessary? Absolutely.
Why this matters:
- Boundaries are everything — you can’t fix everyone, nor should you try.
- Accountability builds respect — if you take care of yourself, people take you seriously.
- Self-reliance = confidence — knowing you can handle your mess ups makes you unshakable.
- It weeds out fake people — those expecting constant rescues aren’t your tribe.
Action Steps:
- Check your own tank — literally and metaphorically. Don’t run yourself dry.
- Set boundaries — help when it’s mutual, not when it’s one-sided.
- Laugh at minor chaos — mistakes are learning opportunities, not excuses for dependency.
- Protect your energy — your support is precious, don’t waste it on people unwilling to manage themselves.
- Celebrate self-sufficiency — being reliable for yourself first is badass.
Life will hand you dead batteries, flat tires, and empty petrol tanks. Some of that is on you — and that’s okay. Handle it. Learn from it. Laugh at it. And remember: your energy, your effort, your confidence — not up for grabs.
